Tandalaloppet, Naverlönnskolan, Svedala

On May 11th the students of Naverlönnskolan arranged Tandalaloppet for the third year in a row. Tandalaloppet is a running race through Svedala, with start and finnish at the grand square (Stortorget).

We had about 50 runners this year, and 18 local shops and business sponsoring our race with prices for the fastest runners and for our lottery.

Weather was sunny and warm, and our students did a great job getting the race together with being responsible for the registration, the timing and making sure all the runners found their way around the course.

Tandalaloppet is a great way for our students to develop their entrepreneurial skills, and connect with the world outside of school.

At the end of March, the Tandala association was pleased to announce that Forum Syd has granted our application for a pre-study. Forum Syd is an aid organization that mediates contributions from SIDA.

In the summer of 2017, our pilot project CEG (Campaign Education for Girls) with the aim that girls should be able to take the degree to the same extent as boys, was concluded. The girls in Secondary school have problems managing their hygiene in the school during their period, which means they have a great absence compared to the boys. Of course, the absence has a negative effect on the girls’ school results. The success of the pilot project meant that we wanted to continue the work on strengthening the girls.

During the pre-study, we intend to plan a new project application together with our local partner TPBC. It is our hope that we will be able to engage the municipality to a greater extent so that we can ensure the long-term perspective of gender equality work.

The preliminary study will be carried out on site in Nzega by Gun-Britt Wiberg and Gunilla Lundahl – Tandala Association’s project manager and assistant project manager – for two weeks in early July.
